Rizwan Virk on Zen Entrepreneurship
On his site Zen Entrepreneur, Rizwan Virk includes excerpts from his book Zen Entrepreneurship: Walking the Path of the Career Warrior [image from cover], noting “at the age of 23, I became President & CEO of my first high technology company, called Brainstorm Technologies… As the company grew, so did my understanding about the business world and how it worked…
“However, around the same time, I began another journey of personal growth, which became inextricably entwined with the growth of my business. In fact, it led me to some startling lessons about entrepreneurship as a path of personal growth; I learned a set of spiritual practices, techniques, and principles, which had to do with what my mentors called “the hidden worlds”….
“My initiation into the business world consisted of choices that I was forced to make on an almost daily basis. My initiation into the hidden worlds had to do with a more thorough exposure to the spiritual principles that I was beginning to see at work all around me.”
Virk goes on to say he “discovered that starting a business is as much an act of self expression as it is a professional one. I found that our beliefs, energetic patterns, and our thoughts manifest themselves in our careers in ways that I hadn’t, and couldn’t have imagined.”
Other writers and leaders have also addressed how these “hidden worlds” - mystical, spiritual and psychological dimensions of life and our inner selves - can impact how we realize talents as an entrepreneur, artist or other achiever.
For example, Dr. Jill Ammon-Wexler [of Quantum-Self] in her article Are You a “Visionary?” talks about dreams: “They may seem unimportant in your quest for success. And it’s true that ordinary dreams are often a mix of what happened during your day – plus some often ‘wild’ random associations.
“But there’s more than one kind of dream. For example: Many ultra successful people use a process of ‘waking dreaming’ to fuel their visionary powers.”
